3 Tips - Search Engine Optimization

This month’s topic is Search Engine Optimization (SEO). What is SEO? Simply put, Search Engine Optimization is a process that makes it easier for Internet consumers to get to know your goods and services from sites such as Google, Yahoo, MSN, Ask, and AOL.

Tip #1: Your homepage should have a descriptive title that is rich with keywords.

EXAMPLE: www.Concept44.com

Current Title = “Concept44”
- Many sites just have the name of their company for the title.

Better Title – “Boutique advertising agency providing interactive marketing, print advertising, and custom creative – Concept44.com”

Even large companies often miss creating good titles. Ogilvy & Mather - one of the largest international advertising, marketing, and public relations agencies - has the title of their website as “Ogilvy.com” (www.ogilvy.com)

Tip #2: Each page on your website is a potential entry point.

It is important to have title, keyword, and description tags that are specific to that page. Search engines may consider all the pages on the site to be the same if they all have the same tags.

Tip #3: Create Google and Yahoo sitemaps for your site.

This will help the robots GoogleBot and Slurp (Yahoo) find all the pages on your site.

Search Engine Optimization Tips

Spotlight - iRockerOnline.com

The owners of iRockerOnline.com had over 25 years experience in the retail furniture industry. Recognizing the potential for selling online, they wanted to have an ecommerce site fully functional for the holiday season.

Crystal Coding Concepts met with iRocker at the end of September and in only 5 days had the website - www.iRockerOnline.com - designed and up and running. We were also able to devise strategic online search marketing campaigns on Google and Yahoo. We focused on terms related to iRocker and Video Game Chairs. On the second day after the site went live, iRocker had their first sale!

Crystal Coding Concepts also optimized the site and created Google Sitemaps and Yahoo Sitemaps. In addition, iRockerOnline products were added to numerous shopping portals including Google Base / Froogle feeds, Yahoo product submissions, Bizrate product feeds, Shopzilla feeds, and Shopping.com feeds.
